Joint Press Conference of World Punjabi Congress Chairman
Fakhar Zaman and Ms.Sonia Raj Sood, Distinguished Indian Lawyer

I welcome you to this press conference of utmost historical importance. In 1925 the High Court of Lahore in a murder case titled Bakhshish Singh V.State gave the verdict that the dying declaration of the deceased is not dependable because punjabi are prone to speak lies. This irresponsible remark was naturally defamatory and derogatory for the Whole Punjabi Community,

Now after 80 years, a distinguished Lawyer of Indian Supreme Court Ms.Sonia Raj Sood has dug up the case. She filed a petition in Delhi Supreme Court and prayed that these irresponsible remarks of two British Judges namely, Scott-Smith and Martineau-JJ be expunged. The court gave the verdict that the remarks of Lahore High Court judges cannot be said to be a considered opinion against particular community.

Ms.Sonia Sood started a signature campaign and sent a  petition to the Indian President for exerting diplomatic pressure upon Britih Govt, for an apology Signatories included prominent personalities like Kuldip Nayar, Kapil Dev and others.

Now Ms. Sonia sood is in Pakistan to present similar petition to president Musharraf to take appropriate steps and exert pressure on British Govt for an open apology to Punjabis. World Punjabi Congress is starting a signature. Campaign today in this respect. Ms sood and World Punjabi Congress is going to file a joint petition in the Lahore Bench of Supreme  Court because the case was heard here.

I request the respected journalists and  media persons to support us on this vital issue and help us in removing the aspersions cast on we Punjabis by the colonialists. We are sure you will kindly cover the Judicial proceedings to the maximum. I thank you or my behalf and on behalf of our distinguished guest Ms Sonia Sood.
